Behind the Scenes

A look at the people and process behind a hospitality film, from styled culinary details to the piano performance.

The challenge

Finished hospitality films look effortless by design, which hides the work that makes them. We wanted to show that work: the coordination, the craft and the small human moments on set. The piece had to be candid without being rough, and short enough to share as a showreel of how the studio operates.

What we made

Sayso Creative cut a thirty two second behind the scenes film from a Mövenpick hospitality production. It moves between the carefully styled culinary details being prepared for camera and the performance led scenes around the piano, catching the crew and talent between takes as well as during them. The camera stays observational, handheld where the main production was locked off, so the contrast between the polished frames and the working set is part of the story. The edit keeps the warmth of the people on set at the centre and lets the finished shots appear briefly for context. The film was shot in Dubai and finished for landscape viewing.

The outcome

The film gives Sayso Creative a way to show prospective clients how a shoot actually runs and who they will be working with. It also gives the hospitality client a companion piece to its main film, with a human angle that suits social channels. For a studio that sells craft, showing the craft in progress is the most honest advertisement it can make.
