The challenge
When someone needs blood, time is the whole problem. Families phone around, post on social media and hope the right person sees it. Chennai needed an app that connected recipients and donors directly, let a donor be found by blood group and location, and reached willing donors immediately when a request went out. It also had to work for people under stress, with as few steps as possible.
What we built
The app has two sides that meet in the middle. Donors create a profile with their blood group and availability. Recipients, or those helping them, post a request for the blood they need. The app matches requests to donor profiles and sends live notifications, so suitable donors hear about a request as it is made rather than when they next open the app. An SOS function covers emergencies, raising an urgent request with the minimum of input. Each request and response is kept in the app, so a recipient can see who has answered and a donor can see what is needed. The screens are kept plain and the actions large, because the people using them are often not calm.
The outcome
The app replaces a chain of phone calls with a single request that reaches the right people at once. Donors are found by what matters, blood group and nearness, and the SOS route means the most urgent cases take the fewest taps. It is a piece of work the collaboration is proud to have delivered.
