Interior Spaces

A twenty one second interior film that treats a room the way a portrait treats a face.

The challenge

Zuma designs interiors and wanted a short film that captured the atmosphere of its spaces rather than documenting them. The difficulty with interior films is that they tend to become walkthroughs. The brief asked for something closer to a mood piece, short enough for social channels, that showed how light, texture and composition create a feeling of quiet elegance.

What we made

Sayso Creative produced a twenty one second film built from carefully composed frames. Each shot holds on a relationship: a surface and the light falling across it, a line of architecture and the object placed against it, a detail and the space around it. The camera barely moves, and when it does the movement follows the natural rhythm of the room. Soft, natural light is kept throughout so that the materials read truthfully. The edit moves at a walking pace, giving each composition time to settle before the next. The film was shot in Dubai and finished for full landscape viewing.

The outcome

The film gives Zuma a piece that communicates taste in under half a minute. A viewer comes away with a sense of how it feels to stand in one of its rooms, which is a harder thing to show than a floor plan and a more persuasive one. It sits comfortably alongside the studio's other films for ZUMA.
